![]() ![]() The 6'6 player is by far the best on our team and starts on his varsity team. While it is a rec league, there are usually 2 players on each team that play varsity and 5/8 players have high school experience. We are the largest team in the league, having 4/5 starters above 6 feet and 2 of our players being 6'5 and 6'6. All suggestions are welcome and will be considered!/r/nba /r/CollegeBasketball /r/BasketballTips /r/coachcornerHi Everyone, I am a coach of a High School Rec Spring League 11th grade team. DO show your passion for coaching basketballIf you have any suggestions or helpful tips related to this sub, send the moderator(s) a message. DO help foster a positive, humourous, thought-provoking basketball coaching culture with quality content I have instructed him to play behind the zone, and teams usually catch onto this and keep a player on him. While we can usually accomplish this, our offense stalls as our 6'6 baseline player has a hard time getting open. I have implemented a 1-3-1 zone offense centered on feeding the 6'5 player in the high post. However, we are much worse than we should be playing against a 2-3 zone. We have no problem with dribble penetration either. When our team plays a man defense, we destroy them with relative ease, we mostly just set screens in the low post and either draw a foul or a double team. ![]() But when you start making adjustments to it to customize it, or even when choosing which one to select, there is few things you should really consider. What are hotspots of your players and how those shots should come about? Essentially you need to have idea what kind of danger zone each player has.How would you defend your team? You need to create bad-worse choices for defense. So let's look into that. Now I can't tell you which zone offense you should go, that's up to you. However you will need to play against the zone. That's kind of two birds with one stone, since you would be A) Increase their turnovers which helps to catch up B) Increase amount of fast breaks you will get, which helps you to avoid playing against zoneSo that's as far as not taking stupid fights goes. If your team is conditioning wise good, you could look prepare full court press/trap defenses for those situations. It shouldn't be unusual sight after you get rebound to have ball and threat penetration 3 seconds from the rebound.More on that, make sure that after scored baskets the ball shouldn't touch the ground and should be opened to PG within 2 seconds from the basket. Now firstly let me throw this in here, since you earlier asked about what if you're behind and can't afford to play long offenses. Sailor beware full movieBut it has to be just right or it doesn't work at all.)-Common Sense(Pass fakes, believable shot fakes, don't stare where you want to pass, threat drive etc.)-Other if those two are excellent(Hard cuts, Take contact, Take offensive rebounds)Hopefully those thoughts help a bit. Second way is with very organized, sharp passing, GREAT timing, using common sense, cuts and finishing well.Offenses I saw used 1 guard, 2 wings, 2 bigs set up with high big and low big with requirement that high big was good passer.Regardless which specific offense you go for what you should stress when practicing is:-TIMING(Frustrating, yes. One way was with 1 individual who was worlds better than anyone else on court and in this case it doesn't seem that your best player is quite that much above the general level. Alternatively, you can have the corners stay put and the wings have a give and go. Dude with the ball can either take it to them or look for back door cuts. Literally all you do is have big cut middle/high post and the defense normally collapses and have a dude in either corner to cut baseline. Something that is really simple that i try to emphasis is backdoor cuts. Or you can look for a baseline shot if the cutter stops short. Guards cut baseline and big looks to feed them. Big man cuts middle/elbow/high post and wing feeds it in. Plays Against 2 3 Zone Free Throw LineI can do drawings if you want more info. Actually looks more like a pentagram now that i think about it. Have two bigs on the block, two guards on the wing that DO NOT go above the free throw line and something called a "slider" who literally covered the whole top funnels dribble pen into the middle. Completely shuts down driving lanes.
